   Virgil Lee Murphy

 

     Virgil Lee Murphy – Born November 9, 1948 at General Hospital Cincinnati, Ohio. Placed under Hamilton County Child Care system until age four and placed in foster home of William and Mary Murphy, lived in Mason Ohio, and attend K – third grade in Mason Public Schools. Had four step brothers and one sister, Earl, Bob, Duke, Tom and Donna. Adopted in 1960. Was reunited with maternal brothers and sister in 1986, John, Virginia, Jim Bowen. At which time learned that I had been living within 2 miles of maternal brother for several years.

     Moved to Goshen in 1956 and attended Goshen Schools, graduated in 1966. Was member of Choir in seventh and eighth grades. Member of Goshen Football teams JV and Varsity 1962 – 1965, as offensive guard and defensive linebacker. Served as equipment manager for high school basketball 1962 – 1964. Played a Civil Defense worker in the school production of "The Mouse that Roared, and a Bee keeper in another production. (name of this play escapes me). Member Varsity "G" Club, 1963 – 1966.

     Married in 1969 to Vicky Juillerat of Milford, have two children Scott, and Kelly. Both Graduates of Goshen, 1997 and 2002 respectively.

     Served as on field medical for football (before trainers) 1992, 1996. Coached Goshen JY Softball under Head Coach Bob Wright and Varsity Assistant Coach under Bryan Russell 1998-2007.

     After graduation become a member of the Goshen Community Fire Dept., as a Cadet until reaching age 21 at which time became a regular member, servered in many officer positions and was appointed Chief in 1980. In 1985 become first Full time Chief of Goshen and served in that position until 2009 when I retired as Full time. Still serving with the Stonelick Township Fire and Rescue as paid on call member.

      Have State certifications as Firefighter II, Basic EMT, Fire Instructor, Fire Safety Inspector, and Fire Investigator. Had first active accelerate sniffing K-9 (Nitro) in State of Ohio working with Local Fire, Police and even State Fire Marshalls Office on suspicious fire. Also worked several homicide cases as Nitro did cadaver work. Have worked with Boy Scouts of America as Merit Badge instructor Fire Safety.

     Currently (2014) servicing as a Board Member for the Southern Ohio Fire & EMS School held annually at Laural Oaks, in Wilmington. (Last 18 years) Love to play golf, gardening, work on safety crew at Moler race track, and proved EMS service for a private Go-Kart club.
